Historically, sangria was made with Spanish wine, fruit juices, fresh fruit, and a touch of sweetener. Over time, the recipe has evolved, and now there are many variations, including the lighter white wine sangria.

Preparing Your Sangria

Steps to Make White Summer Sangria

  1. Choose Your Wine: Start with a good bottle of white wine. Inexpensive wines work well because the fruit and other ingredients will enhance the flavor.
  2. Prepare the Fruit: Slice your favorite fruits into thin wedges or small pieces. Popular choices include oranges, lemons, limes, green apples, and fresh peaches. Fresh raspberries add a burst of color and flavor.
  3. Mix the Ingredients: In a large pitcher or drink dispenser, combine the white wine, sliced fruit, orange juice, and triple sec. Add simple syrup to taste.
  4. Add Fizz: Just before serving, add club soda or lemon-lime soda to the mix. This will give your sangria a delightful sparkle.
  5. Chill: Add ice cubes to the pitcher to keep the sangria cold.

How Long to Let It Sit

For the best flavor, let your sangria sit in the refrigerator for at least 2-4 hours before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together. For an even more intense flavor, let it sit overnight.

Storing Your Sangria

Short-Term Storage

If you plan to drink the sangria the next day, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Adding a bit of club soda just before serving will refresh the fizz.

Long-Term Storage

Sangria can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days. If you want to keep it longer, consider freezing it in ice cube trays. These sangria ice cubes can be added to a glass of white wine for a quick and refreshing drink.
