When I’m behind the bar at the Protective Club I love trying out new cocktail recipes.  I recently discovered this old school classic cocktail for all of the whiskey lovers out there. The Whiskey Fix recipe is a drink recipe that’s easy to make with a few simple ingredients.  It’s a mixed drink that’s really refreshing.  If you’re someone who likes whiskey cocktails you should give this a shot.  

It’s a perfect drink recipe for the old fashioned drinker who wants to try something new.

The Main Ingredients for the Whiskey Fix Recipe

Whiskey

​For this classic whiskey cocktail you can use rye or bourbon whiskey.  They type of whiskey you choose should be something you enjoy drinking.

Lemon Juice

​Use fresh lemon juice for this classic recipe.  Get some fresh lemons and give them a good squeeze.

I’ve seen versions where they use sour mix, but I strongly suggest fresh lemon juice if possible.

Simple Syrup

​When you make simple syrup you should use equal parts water and sugar.  The sweetness of the simple syrup in this cocktail is important because it really adds balance.

Garnish

A nice slice of lemon is the perfect garnish for this cocktail. 

 You could also use a lemon twist.  If you use a lemon twist, make sure you express the oils from the lemon peels.  It really makes a difference.

You can also add a rosemary sprig if you want to get fancy.

How to Make the Whiskey Fix

The Whiskey Fix drink is really easy to make.

​First add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.

​Shake everything up really well.

​Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a highball glass over fresh ice. 

​Garnish the glass with a lemon slice or a twist of lemon.

​Does the Whiskey Fix have to be served in a highball glass?

No.  It’s a drink that should be served over ice.  A rocks glass or a lowball glass will work fine.

​What are some different variations of the Whiskey Fix?

​The Hot Toddy recipe is pretty similar.  It has lemon juice, whiskey, hot water and honey. People say it’s a good remedy to cure a sore throat and cold symptoms.

​A Whiskey Sour has the same ingredients as the Whiskey Fix with the addition of egg white and bitters.

​What is the best whiskey to use in a Whiskey Fix?

Choose your favorite whiskey.  If you like Irish whiskey, use it.  If you like bourbon, try that.  The nice thing about this recipe is that you can give it your own twist depending on the whiskey you choose.

Ingredients

  

• 2 1/2 ounces of whiskey of choice
• 1 ounce of lemon juice
• 1/2 ounce of simple syrup
• Lemon slice

Instructions

 

• Add whiskey, lemon juice and simple syrup to cocktail shaker with ice.
• Shake vigorously for 15-20 second.
• Strain contents of the shaker into a highball glass with fresh ice.
• Garnish with a lemon slice
